Question about the wargaming humor forum

Post by Kaazmodan »

I just wanted to see if people here liked my idea of not letting posts in the wargaming humour forum count towards you post count. I am suggesting this because most of the replies in the humour foruim are like tripple smiley, LOL or something that has absolutely nothing to do with druchii.net
However I think if you post a topic it should count towards the post count

Well, I don't really see why they should not be, but to me the post count is not all that serious a thing. Really, I'd think it an easier matter of coding and whatnot if they were included since I'd still want to be able to search for all the posts made by that person in all the forums. If you think it will reduce spamming, I doubt it as I recall, its rather part of the fun of the place. ;)

Thr triple smily is just to say that someone liked the joke more than anything, acknowledged its existence, kind of like laughing. If they took the time to analyze the joke and why they thought it was funny instead of just making the smilies, it might make the joke a lot less funny (I know, I've done it a few times ;) ).

I voted yes, cause Im not a "nay-sayer", but I think it should be rethinked well - POST COUNT is smoething like expirience in RPG game and ppl consider it as trust-o-meter: the more posts - the better advise (its HARD to be a regular member of Druchii.net and NOT IMPROVE gaming skills).

Perhaps a minimal text requirement before you could have a post count. Say, your post has to contain at least 25 characters. Would keep replies from just being smiley faces and just yes or no.

Though I'm relatively new, in my experience there has been no replies like that, of course, no one understood my joke off stabbing friends so.

well if you made the posts not count in the wargaming humor section i dont think as many people would go in and look at the cool and funny stuff they have in there.

I say yes because first as Vorchild points out, the number of posts aren't that important, it's the content of those posts that should be what people are judged by. And second, why ask Kirtrik to do some extra work that's not that important? I think he's got enough to deal with as is.

Not a bad question, though.

No - for two reasons...

1) Lots coding.
2) My own post count would be halved...

This is a great idea. Mayby not even 25 charachters but maybe only 10 or 15. This is the best idea that I've heard. I'm not asking much, the inly thing I want is something that reduces spamming, it's not because I want peoples postcounts down. Any other ideas will be great.

My only thought is this...

The # of posts/ranking system means next to nothing. I'd like to think it has something to do with helpful posts and inquiries... Maybe i'm just dreaming.

And coding for doing this would be so hard, irritating and boring that the forum owner would rather shoot him/herself.

Codings a b*tch!

So? i thought only the content was important?
Plus, you'd still have 1,000+posts.

I'd vote yes, because of Ark'an's reasons.
And @Furion: I totally disgree w/ you.
Some times only a smiley or "looks like a fine list" or "Another vistory to pile up" R sufficient and they don't have 25 characters.
But I think this discussion has been held before, so I won't open it again.

I think doing that is a little over the top. A post is a post, its not some sort of award you get increasing some special 'Message Board' status.

No, if you only counted content, my post count would be below zero...
