Kethlis takes to the streets

Post by Mielkith »

At last I have managed to get a small campaing going again. Not many teams at the moment, we have Reiklanders, Undead, Dark Elves and another team to join at the weekend.
The first game was just a free for all tog et us into the spirit of things.
Rudi's Rollocking Raiders (Undead) deploying along the ground to the left of me, Rieklanders at the far side and my Dark Elves taking cover along the back of a building.

My warband
Dark Elves
1 Highborn + Dark Elve Sword + Axe +Helmet 115
1 Fellblade + 2 Swords 60 Fellblade + Two handed sword 55
1 Beastmaster + Axe, Whip 60
1 Sorceress, Axe, Doombolt 55

2 Corsairs- Swords 80
1 Cold One Beasthound 30

The Roll for first turn (D6 plus leaders I) went to me with a respectable roll of 11.
The Rieklander had line of sight into all the streets I might use, so caution was needed here. my two corsairs went forward and took cover in the furfest buillding they could reach. My plan was to block of that alley so the mercenarys couldn't get through too easily. The rest went round the building to the left, waiting to see what the Undead would do. Shooting was uneventfull, failing to cast spells and hit anything at all.
Off went the Dire Wolves at full speed towards the humans, they would reach them in a few turns. Followed by everyone minus the vampire and two more zombes. They turned around and approached my Fellblades, who were pearing round the corner.
Rieklanders began to advance down the middle and shoot. No casualties, no combat, not a very exciting first turn.

My Turn. I have never before entered combat with a vampire, and I didn't intend to unless I could outnumber him atleast 8-1. The necormancer could bring any dead hero back as a Zombie, so extra caution was needed. Everyone scuttled up the building, if the vamp was to climb up, he would have to be alone. (I 1 for zombies). My beasthound failed Stupidity, walking 3" out into the open, the dire wolves looking dangerously close. Shooting was un-eventful, moving onto to the next player.
Charges were declared and the cold one was doomed. Meanwhile the vampire and company took cover from my crossbow beneath my building. The rest wandered forward, into the cross hairs of the Rieklanders. The cold one suffred 5 wounds with 2 critical hits, causing 3 out of action results. Poor guy.
The Humans moved forwards looking angry, almost into combat with the dregs. Shooting resulted in one dead zombie and one knocked down. More pot shots were taken at my Sorceress who simply shrugged of the three bolts that had struck her and were now presumably sticking out her leg.

Turn 3, the bulk of the enemy were fighting each other, so the corsairs were pulled back to help take on the vampire (if need be). Everyone else moved to find better cover in the building or to get a better line of sight. Shooting failed miserably yet again.
The Dire Wolves, unable to climb the ruins headed to the Rieklanders again. The vampire and zombie team stayed put. He didn't catch on that I had missed every shot I had made. Then the miraculus happened. Dregs and zombies entered combat with some mercenarys. From what i could tell, the undead were using swords and the mercenarys were kitted up with pistols and some other melee weapon. One zombie fell and a henchman was knocked down.
The combat was joined by all humans in range (about 2), while the marksmen with heroes advanced towards me some more. Shooting and missing again. The youngbloods and Swordsmen charged the Dire Wolves. On to combat. The Dire Wolve combat went first. One more undead casualtie would force a route test. The swordsmen failed to wound but a youngblood with Halberd struck a wolf down, taking OA. A bad roll for leadership meant that Undead were out of the game.

Turn 4, almost time for a fight. more shooting, more magic, more mising. The same applies to the humans, who advanced furthur down.

Turn 5. Charge was the appropriate phrase. The majority of his warband was in range so I threw everything minus the Sorceress at him. Fell blades V Youngblood, leader V henchmen with pistols, Corsairs V Captain and 2 swordsmen and the beastmaster sat back with his whip. The combat went
extremely well. The Corsairs took out a swordsmen, the fellblades took put a youngblood and my highborn slaughtered the henchman.
More charging, this time with everything he had. More henchman on my leader and the rest took on my fellblades. The remaining marksmen with crossbows finally killed someone. My sorceress was OA (not much of a loss really). More combat, more slaughtering. the fellblades took out all who stood in range. My leadercut down another henchman and the corsairs took out his leader and the final swordsmen. The beastmaster cracked his whip bringing the last combatant to the floor stunned.

Turn 5, the stunned henchman was taken out by my leader and the even we know refer to as the great escape (or gay gay gay tactics) comenced. The two marksmen fled, and i chased. This lasted for about 6 turns until he fianlly admitted defeat and dissapeared of the board edge.

And there you have it. this is the first battle report I can remember writing, I imagine it is quite tediouse but you never know.

Well, thats the end of that warband. Slaughtered by Rieklanders in the third game. I just couldn't get the wounds. Cold ones suffered from Stupidity every turn, Magic failed to do anything and fell blades fell from many roofs.
The members who actually survived were two beasthouds, a sorceress and a corsair. I am starting an Ostermark warband now, lets hope it fares better.

Bad luck... but hey, you´re right about falling off roofs.

I have started 2 warbands of Dark Elves and both contained Fellblades with smasehd legs, broken legs or amupated legs after some games. Of course all injuries were due to failed diving charges and jumps.

Gnah. I like the "sniper" approach a lot more:

All five possible heroes, corsair, 2 shades.

Plus 4 repeating crossbows distributed among Sorc, Higborn, Beastmaster and Corsair. The little spare money is spent on additional weapons for the shades (cannon fodder/screen) and Fellblades.

It worked... somehow. Until I let my Fellblades climb.
