Modelling beasthounds?

Post by Eversor »

Anyone have any ideas for modelling beasthounds that don't look like crap? The cold one heads look a bit too big to just mash onto an old chaos hound or something like that.

I was thinking something based on Kroot hounds, but I'm not sure.

I was planning to use warp beasts when I finally get round to it. In the mean time I am just using Cold Ones, no one complains.

If you can find them use the old 2-piece metal Cold Ones that came with the old Mail-order Cold One Chariot seen here:

Failing that, there was a set of alligator-like Cold One Beasthounds that came with a Slaan Beast handler:

If you don't mind steppeing outside the GW range, you might be able to find some of the Lizards called Felldrakes that were part of the short-lived Chainmail miniatures game. They would also make acceptable Cold One Beasthounds.

I used a slightly modified Cold One Head with GS moulded onto a Wolf body, again modified with GS. It looks pretty good, but I don't have any pics unfortunately. Heldrak, do you know where I could get some of those old models?

They're all long out-of-production, so eBay would probably be your best bet. I might have a spare set of 2-piece Chariot Cold Ones if you want to pm me, but they would be very expensive.

Perhaps dire wolves? If you modelled them to look less like pigs, and make their heads smaller, they would look good. Perhaps model rocky lumps, of leashes, or something like that...

I have found that www.reapermini.com has a lot of good wolf/hound models.

And as far as GW wolves (they look like Sqirrels on Steroids)

One of the old chaos hounds works perfectly. There was one used in the "best unit" winner in the free booklet that came with the WD that daemon hunters came out with.

Wow thats some nice looking painting.

For hounds I've just used Warp Beasts.

Hopefully I'll get some pictures in the next couple of weeks.
