Dwarf Treasure Hunters Warband (never been defeated)

Post by Zelgoria »

dwarf noble with gromil armour, dwarf axe and sheild 180cc

2 dwarf clansman with heavy armour, sheild and dwarf axe 220cc

1 dwarf thunderers with handgun light armour, sheild and the fre dagger 100cc

so what do you think, sometime i drop one of the clansman and take a warlock and trollslyer with 2 dwarf axes and it comes to the same amount of cc

*gasps*... Sorry, but you actually think that four models alone will take it?

IMO, armour is incredibly over-rated when building up a mordheim warband and helmets are more then enough of protection, ESPECIALLY for dwarfs. You need your numbers, for this makes it for your opponent quite easy to outnumber you in combats. And when someone with a doublehanded weapon comes running your way, that extremely expenisve suit of armour is not going to rescue you!

But that's just my opinion... I'd go for bigger numbers!

Well, I played against a huge number of dwarfs in one warband.
A Leader, Two Slayers, an Engeneer, two beardlings and some hencemen.
They had mosly 2 weapons or a spear and in total 3 xbows.
They all made up a kind of formation (I wished to have black horror from WHFB) and went straight to win game after game....

Armor can be good(early on in a campaign or in 1 off games) if playing against warbands like Dark Elves who lack any real form of high strength.

Combined with OOA on a 6 only makes you engage them in melee to take advantage of KD/Stun melee auto OOA rules.

But only 4 models, numbers will usually win against better equioment, though will have to make our dwarf player try it out.

4 models and only one ranged weapon?

I would run circles around them, claim higher ground and objectives before they can and magic/shoot them to death. I can see how Dwarfs with loads of crossbows can be a problem but this small warband doesn't seem too powerful to me.

Yeah four guys would deffinately be a problem. You only need a few lucky hits and you are out. Drop the light armor and shield on the thunderer and make him a quarreler. That should give you enough gc left to drop the heavey armor on the other two dwarfs and buy atleast one more guy.

The major benefit dwarfs have is their high toughness. They don't really need armour, especially when you're just starting out a campaign. Armour comes into play a little later, but you better hope you don't go against some amazons. Your armour means nothing to them.
