Starting a dwarf army for LotR

Post by Dread lord malice »

I have decided to step back from Warhammer and 40k for a bit and take up another love that I have neglected for too long, LotR. More importantly, Dwarves and a allied High Elf force. The new Dwarf plastics are pretty sweet (not the best, be a deffinate improvment over the normal warrior metal models). Also, as a bonus I was pleasently suprised that I can build a large (pure) Dwarf force at just over a $100. I know a hundred buck is still a hundred bucks, but thats relativly cheap when your talking about GW models. I havent nailed down anything for painting ideas but I think I want to do somthing with blues and silvers, with a bit of gold here and there. Any suggestions on which heros to use, etc. and comments are welcome.

For heroes, Gimli and Balin are pretty decent I think (though I'm not a big fan of dwarf heroes at all). The kings are pretty useless I think but if you find you're short on might go with an extra captain or two as though they aren't great, they aren't too bad either. Dwarf bows are worth investing in for sure and khazad guard are pretty good. Still, the whole are is seriously tough and worth getting for sure. Blues (cloth I supposed) and silvers are an excellent combination I think and suit dwarfs rather well even though they aren't traditional earthy colours.

Try and get Dain Ironfoot because he is the best dwarf hero (Maybe Durin but I do not know his rules) supported by Khazad guard or the new iron guard or vault wardens. Dwarf rangers sound good. Try to get as many dwarf bows as possible

I decided to pick up the "Wardens of the Westgate" Dwarf Battlehost. The box contains roughly 700 points! Im gonna add Durin, Mardin and a few Khazad Guard to fill in the points.
So this is what the army list looks like:

Durin............................................................106pts

Mardin..........................................................75pts

Dwarf Captian w/ throwing axes........................65pts

3 Khazad Guard.............................................33pts

8 Iron Guard..................................................80pts

Dwarf Ballista w/ Superior Construction...............80pts

Dwarf Banner Bearer........................................38pts

8 Dwarf Warriors w/ shields...............................72pts

8 Warriors w/ two-handed weapons....................64pts

8 Warriors w/ bows...........................................72pts

8 Dwarf Rangers w/ throwing axex......................80pts

8 Rangers with Dwarf longbows...........................80pts

8 Rangers w/ two-handed weapons.....................56pts

Total...............................................................995pts

I pulled this list from the latest White Dwarf cause it looked very solid and also relativly cheap. I can add/remove stuff with suggestions. Thanks all.

You look to have a pretty good variety there - means you can play smaller games and switch things up or go for the whole thing - fine way to do things. :)

Thanks that what I was thinkin. The list above will only set me back like $120-130 bucks. I dont see why more people dont play LotR.
