Druchii list for mordheim

Post by Rattleshirt »

Ok, starting a Mordheim campaign very soon, and since I'm building up my DE army, I figured this would work nicely.

Here's my starting warband, let me know what you think... 500 gc doesn't go far! Oh yes, I'm using the list in the Lustria campaign setting for the time being. Plus, the folks I play against prefer the "somewhat" official nature of it.

Highborn w/ 2 swords (one dark elf blade) 110 crowns

Fellblade w/ great sword and light armor (using executioner model) 105 crowns

Sorceress w/ dagger 55 crowns

2 Corsairs w/ spear and dagger 90 crowns

2 Corsairs w/ repeater Xbow and dagger 130 crowns

Exactly 500 crowns. The idea would be to have the xbows up high on scenery as the rest march together... spearmen in front (always strikes first helps) with the Fellblade there to charge a target with the spearmen. Then the sorc and the Highborn follow the front line... the Highborn is there to add his punch but hopefully not take any hits. The sorceress at this point is just for magic and little else.

I know some are saying why armor on the Fellblade? Well, he's going to strike last, so adding the armor is one way to help ensure a little bit more survivability up to that point. It's not much, but it's an extra die roll.

Thoughts? Thanks!

Shame on them ;-)

Two handed swords are a risky business in Mordheim. Giving them to models with A1 and without Strongman means, that you will only have one chance to hit, if you will get it at all. Let's say that your elite fellblade charges a human warrior with club and dagger. Human goes first and hits on 4+ - that is 75% chance that he will hit. Then he will wound on 4+. This makes for 37.5% chance of wounding. Count the armour in, and there is still 31% chance (not including criticals) that your fellblade will go down before a chance to attack. Then the fellblade will hit on 3+ and wound on 2+, which is quite good - 56% chance of wounding. With sword and dagger or halberd it would be 44%, but the charging fellblade would go first.

Light armour really does not justify its price. You have to roll 6, and you only get the chance if S of the attack is 3 or less and if it is not an axe. And if your opponent does not roll a critical hit, which happens quite often.

Better then risking your Highborn in the front line, he should be hanging back and shooting.

The other problem is, that you only start with 3 heroes. You should maximize their number to maximize your income. If you drop the light armour and dark blade and replace two-handed weapon, and if you replace one corsair with spear by a Shade with an axe, you can have Beastmaster. The Shade will act as a vanguard, bait and cannonfodder. Or get a cheap Hired Sword for that job.
