So I have $300 in Games Workshop Vouchers to spend :)

Well honestly I don't have an idea what I am going to spend these on this coming weekend at Games Day Chicago.

I am currently only a Fantasy Player and I have 4 armies Vampire Counts and Dark Elves which I have painted and play the vast majority of the time. I also bought a Nurgle Demonic Legion and have a Dogs of War army that a number of people helped me paint so we could help newbies fill out 2000 point lists in our last campaign (I bought the models assembled them and did a tad of painting while 2 others did the vast majority of the painting)

So I am pondering possibly terrain or starting a completly new Fantasy or 40k army with it.

Now I know tons about Fantasy but close to nothing about 40k.

I think I would want to play either a very fast moving tatical army or a pretty tough army with strong close combat/shooting. I am leaning away from "horde" armies since I still recall doing my Vampire Counts. Not quite ready to take on a massive model count army at this time.

So here's the question if I were to get about $150-$180 worth of 40k what army would you suggest. Also what are some units you think would be good to have for that army in order to get a good starting list together to learn the game.

While obviously it might be nice to have a winning list I am more concerned about trying to get units for the army that are likely to be useful in most lists for the army down the road and learning how to play 40k and that army in general.

Thanks for any tips, suggestions and etc!

(P.S. I might not have net access for the next day or two but I should later in the week so thanks in advance and toss any questions my way for me to help you help me. I will answer them as fast as I can.)

Again Thanks in Advance.

I have narrowed my Possible armies down to Necrons, Dark Eldar and Eldar.

I can't advise you on the 2 eldar as I don't have a DE or the new eldar book, have a small work in progress army and when I work on the list ill get the book. But the necrons are fun and for 202 you can get 2 battle forces and the codex. This is a solid army as the necrons are built around having a lot of foot sloggers due to an auto lose function. So having all those troops helps with the list and then all you need is an hq and you are set (most good lists are 30 to 50 warriors point value depending). Then you add on the extras you like. I would look through the codex first as necrons make space marines look cheap. I am looking @ de too and don't want to order so I don't have any answers for them. Though the eldar army is built around elite warriors that have heavy specialisations and not much else (wrong unit and your gone). That's it for me and have fun in chicago.
