Honour Guard Squad/Command Squad question

Post by Rangeltoft »

Just a quick question regarding the Honour Guard/Command squad.

Do they work like the old "retinues" or are they independent squads that don't have to be deployed with the Chapter Master/Captain?

Oh, and can you take hellfire rounds with a combi-bolter?

Does it say the IC has to join the unit/can't leave it?

In there lies the answer to your question.

Actully doesnt say anything..

The reason I'm asking is because of the Dawn of War deployment.

But going from what you said Rork, I can't deploy my Chapter Master with the Honour Guard in that specific misson

They are a seperate listing. Not a retinue. Therefor the IC does not have to ever be with the HG/CS.

A combi-bolter while being a bolt gun base is not a bolter. I would say no they cant use Hellfire Rounds. Just a heavy bolter or bolt pistol cant.

I'd actually say you can take hellfire rounds in a combi-weapon as it still has a bolter in it just with an attachment on top of it. FAQ is probably needed to clear it up properly though.

FAQ is months away. Till then house rule will be the only way to decide.

A combi-bolter is not a Boltgun and RAW would dictate that it would not be eligible for hellfire rounds.

"Note that Hellfire rounds can only be used in a boltgun." - Directly from the book.

Well if Cassius's Combi-Flamer is anything to go by you can, as his has hellfire rounds. Although it could just be for him and him alone, but I shall play as if all combi weapons can take Hellfire rounds untill a FAQ says otherwise.

While a combi-weapon isn't a bolter as such, it does consist of a bolter and a special weapon.

I don't see how the bolter portion is any different to a normal bolter.

Per the description on Combi-Weapons on page 97 of the new SM codex, any combi-weapon counts as a bolter with the option of using the extra weapon instead of a consistent discharge of bolter rounds. As the description for a boltgun (on the same page) also states that it is referred to as a bolter, I see no problem with using the Hellfire Rounds when firing the combi-weapon as a bolter.
