Well, crap, i was sure that there was something in Kinslayers post that had invalidated the plan, but now that I look back, there wasn't. My bad guys.

Yeah, and I already have the rather impatient banter after the fight planned. XD

One more thing - much though I'd like to claim credit it was KI'LIA not KHALIA that killed the guard ;)

Well, joint effort realy. Though I have to say that (though its a shame that the plan couldn't be given a try) this scene did give me hope that magic might well work in this game. Slortor's imaginative use of chamon, simple and easy but useful, worked while the more brute force aproach didn't. That is kind of what I think it should be, something to help the group rather than dominate it.
Moding a group of Druchii.net players is much like directing the musical 'Cats' using actual cats. Frustrating, difficult, chaotic but ultimatley satisfying and a great deal of fun.

yeah - I've been putting a bit more effort into trying to work out the more subtle approaches. This fight was also more in my favour as I actually had metal to manipulate this time...

I think Chamon has a lot of potential actually as a minor lore - probably needs to be backed up by a different lore than shadow though. Fire or Death prehaps - something with more direct damage potential. (Heavens could be useful actually....)

I'm having hope as well. I'm also having hope that my lesser application of death is successful. Using lesser amounts of power to weaken rather than kill many enemies bodes well for combos.

The introduction of magic counters is a sure fire way to keep it balanced; I'm not relying on magic (though it's proven useful), and the mages have been forced to work without it and survived (though bloody) so... I think its working well and isn't having a really huge effect on the game.

I do like having magic in the game - I'd suggest a little more testing, prehaps another short one like this using most of the other lores in order to check it out. Life and Heavens in particular i think would require a little testing - but overall im really enjoying it.

I like this idea. I'm becoming more busy lately also, and I want to focus my attention on this site on my main RPG group. Thus I may bring our little playtest to a premature end quite soon, but we can try to experiment with different combinations of characters using different lores and see how Magic works in various groups under various storylines.

If anyone wants to create temporary playtest groups to try out the above, I'm sure no RPG mods will mind ;)

So far I'd say Magic can work well and adds a new dimension to the game. However, I leave it up to you RPGers to decide if you want it included or not.

I think that so far magic apears to work quite well, obviously it still needs more testing, I think I might run a short playtest along the same lines as this one inorder to try different situation and more immportantly different laws.

Im rapidly becoming a big fan of magic - I think it adds a good extra dimension to the game both in and out of combat. More testing required of course but I like the way metal and death work certainly.

So far Im not convinced about shadow - but prehaps a lvl 2 specialising in it would be able to make better use of it than I have.

I think magic adds a whole new dimension to the game, and with some simple management by the DM, can be kept from being overly powerful. A good example is how the Magic Eaters basically had us winging shiz as fast as we could because two of our members were useless at that point. In our other plans however, magic played a key role usually, with Death and Metal being the most useful, as I recall. I look forward to seeing how the other RP will pan out, with the other magics in use.
