Blood Bowl RPG (sign up)

Post by Kinslayer »

BLOOD BOWL RPG

The manager of the well renowned Blood Bowl team The Naggaroth Nightmares, Viktus Nauglus, is recruiting a whole team of new players (after the original Nightmares were rather savagely butchered upon the playing field by the Lustrian Lancers!) Do you have what it takes to sign up? Can you brave laying down your battlefield weapons, and taking to the Blood Bowl pitch?

Anybody is welcome to sign up to this new game, and if it proves popular enough it will hopefully take off!

Players must create a character, who will fill one of four roles on the pitch (or the bench!). Dark Elf Blood Bowl teams are made up of the normal eleven players, with up to five substitutes on the bench. The majority of these will be linemen, and while they don’t have any special abilities or roles they actually do most of the work. It’s their job to get the ball off the opposition, and get it further down the pitch towards the opponents’ endzone. Also on the team are several Blitzers, whose role it is to make sure opponent players don’t get in the rest of their teams way. That usually means tackling and blocking, but from time to time the knives come out! Those fast and nimble enough may find themselves given the role of Runner, and it’s their job to get past the wall of players between them and the opponents’ endzone, and catch the ball if it’s hurled their way. Sometimes they make it, a lot of the time they don’t! Finally, Dark Elf teams can recruit the fearsome Witch Elves to their cause, who act a bit like an intimidating Blitzer gone mad, frenzied and fast although lacking their other teammate’s staying power. The Nightmares are looking for a little bit of everything, so come and join in the fun!

Viktus Nauglus has yet to reveal what leagues and tournaments lay ahead, but as training and recruitment go ahead with the last of his teams’ budget, it’s all or nothing for the Naggaroth Nightmares. This is their last chance to find glory on the gridiron pitch!

Creating a Player

Name: What is your player called? Or at least, what does he or she want to be known as?
Age: How old are they? Still a hundred year old seedling, or a retired veteran of many centuries?
Sex: Are they a man, or are they a woman? (Slaaneshi cultists please select the most appropriate answer)
Description: What does your player look like? Think of build, hair, eye colour, scars, dress sense etc.
Background: What has your player done with their life, and why are they now looking to play Blood Bowl?
Position: Lineman, Blitzer, Runner or Witch Elf (females only!) – Which is it to be?

Please be aware that Viktor only wants one or two Witch Elves and Runners, and is not allowed to take more than four Blitzers to the pitch in his team. The majority of the Nightmares’ need to be good old fashioned Linemen.

Name: Mellerax Obdus

Age: 200

Sex: Male

Description: Mellerax has thick black hair, broad shoulders, tanner than normal dark elf skin, relatively dull looking dark brown eyes and several scars across his face. He tends to dress in simple clothes, made of coarse cloth and linen, with bits of leather, chain and metal sometimes sewn in.

Background: Born into a house of lesser nobility, Mellerax was never the smartest of Dark Elves. As a child, he tended to struggle to understand anything beyond the basic rudiments of Dark Elf society, military tactics and the higher pursuits of artful torture and blood play. However, where he did tend to excel was out in the streets, where he would frequently impose his larger than average size to force his will on other Dark Elf children. Never quite clever enough to be a systematic bully, Mellerax was nonetheless quite happy and willing to act the thug, extracting food and precious items from the other Dark Elf children at will.

Upon maturing, Mellerax found himself most easily suited to manual labour jobs, such as beating slaves who failed to work hard enough and acting as a thug henchman for dark elf nobles or merchants who wanted to intimidate or neutralise their rivals. In recent years, Mellerax has found himself drawn more and more towards blood sports, such as wresting and cage fighting. These brutal pastimes have helped to make him rich and have stimulated a passion inside him for the joy of beating others in the name of sport. Mellerax likes to win, but the thrill of beating his opponent has always proved more of the driving motivation behind his participation than the laurels each victory brought him.

Upon hearing that the Naggaroth Nightmares were recruiting, Mellerax decided to sign up. He wants to take his thuggery in sport to date to the next level, and sees the opportunity of beating the living day lights out of a whole range of other races as a new and exciting challenge for him.

Position: Blitzer.

Is that okay - do you need more for this? Is this the right place to post it or do you want it in the character creation thread?

That's fine and this is the correct place, nice to have some interest in the game!

I won't start playing this one until the TMRS game has ended, so there's plenty of time to submit a character everyone, and we should all be free to play when the game begins ;)

Sounds fun, count me in!

Name: Jaukor "Stabby" Yldreth
Age: 701
Sex: Male
Position: Lineman

Description:
Grey and uncouth. Tends to be a little shorter and stockier than his peers on the field. Bearer of many, many scars, most of which were acquired during his already long (if not particularly illustrious) BloodBowl career.

Background:
The son of a mere farmer, Jaukor found at a young age that his true loves in life were violence and glory. Due to his station, however, achieving status in the military was all but out of the question, and he resolved himself bitterly to a life at the farm. Then one day, seeing Jaukor at not even a century of age, two traveling BB teams came together at the nearby city of Ghrond after lengthy campaigns in the Old World. Whether it was fate or the guiding hand of Khaine, young Jaukor soon found himself in the dug-out, with a knife at the throat of the manager of one of the teams, demanding to be allowed to join. Luckily for him, his homicidal tendencies saw him fit right in with the crew, and he has stayed in the game ever since, eventually joining up with the famed Nightmares. Despite his age, Jaukor never feels like he's getting too old for this ****, even though none can deny his strength is lessening as fast as his hair is turning white.

Career highlights:
- famously tied together the shoelaces of Grok Elfstomper mid-brawl, allowing his team to steal victory from the Teeftown Trashas.
- killed Tchi-Tchi, the Quetzacoatl Slimeys renowned Skink runner, and proceeded to devour him right on the pitch to the cheering of ten thousand fans.
- put four Ghor players out of commission in a single game using naught but a broken off horn, earning him his nickname.
- never actually scored a touchdown, presumably due a distinct lack of interest in the ball.

We appear to be forming a D.net TV channel: reality shows, sports shows, the announcements board could just about be news, a whole host of dramas in the form of the RPs. What's next, talk show for the RP characters? :D

Name: Sudim Dranils
Age: 243
Sex: Male
Description: Shaved head, green eyes, darker skin tone than most druchii, average build with a bit of merchant's flab, used to wearing extravagant finery but currently wears slave rags.
Background: Sudim was born into a merchant family and grew up with all the luxuries that the rich are so very fond of. However he was never very good at, well anything really, it was not for lack of effort or intelligence or ability just by some random twist of fate every venture he touched turned to muck. Not wanting to admit that they had bred and brought up a failure the Dranils family kept Sudim well away from any important matters, preferring to simply pay for whatever activities he wanted so long as it kept him occupied and out of the way.

Most of the resources Sudim had given to him went toward his favourite hobby, Bloodsports. He bet on every game there was going, from horse and cold one racing, to slave hunting and gladiatorial sports, the game he enjoyed the most though was by any measure the bloodbowl, he never missed a match and even sponsored a team for a while. However Sudim often lost far more money than he made, and the team he sponsored fell apart within three matches due to a massive casualty rate and his debtors were asking for money that the Dranils family weren't willing to pay, as such an agreement was made between the two parties: The various people Sudim owed money to would take ownership of the man in exchange for the drop of his debts. Sudim's debtors decided the most entertaining and ironic way to make thier money back would be to enlist him in a bloodbowl team and take his earnings, Viktus Nauglus needed a player and the rest, as they say, is history.

Thanks Raneth! Please note, the Nightmares were wiped out by the Lustrian Lancers and thus Viktus Nauglus is recruiting an entire new team! Perhaps you'll have to fix it so that Jaukor played for another team, which has been disbanded / dismembered and left him signing up to join the Nightmares.

There's nothing wrong with creating characters with a BB history, however you'll all be on the same 'level' when you begin in the game - so if you've played before you haven't been amazing.

Ever have one of those days where you make a really long detailed post, then your girlfriend borrows the computer and closes the window you had open thus deleting your post. Yeah, that just happened. This is a rather smaller version of what I had started...

Name: Kefka Pallazo
Age: 245
Sex: Male
Description: Average height. slim. very pale skin, almost pure white. Long blonde hair. Kekfa also wears blood red makup, red liptstick styled to give him a perpetual grin, and eyeshadow that comes down in red, jagged spikes, giving Kefka an eternal evil sneer.
Background: Kefka is a noble who inherited his father vast fortune (after killing him of course). He missuses the money to fulfill his desires, hosting parties and extravagant games, earning his money back through cheating and double crossing.
In particular, his favourite games included Flog Moshing, Slave slashing, and Deadliest Catch. During one game of Deadliest Catch (in which a slave is released into the woods with rations, a knife and a bow with some arrows) Kefka had captured and killed the released slave in record time. One of the other nobles competing made an offhanded comment that Kefka might be fast but he could never take a hit against real men. After flaying the skin from the mans flesh, Kefka decided to prove he could, and learned the rules to the deadliest game ever, Blood Bowl. He is now seeking a team and a manager.

Hey Kin, I will post a char this weekend ;)

Name: Zynca Shadizar
Age: 263
Sex: Female
Position: Witch Elf

Description:
Zynca is average height and weight. Her eyes are deep purple, and her hair is pitching black. She has her hair in one long braid, and hidden in it she has a small throwing dagger for easy kill purposes. She has one large tattoo that covers her back totally. The image is one white and one black dragon twisted together in a fight. Her left ear has many piercings, and over her right eye she has one large tattoo of a star.

Background:
Zynca comes from a house of lesser nobility. She was the youngest of four siblings, and the only female. In her younger days, she was bullied and picked on by her brothers. But as they grew older she fought back, and often it didn’t end pretty for the boys.

Zynca is filled with rage, hate and anger, and she will go beyond length to get or archive what she wants. If that means taking life to get to her goal, she will kill without a thought and most of the times with a smile on her face.

Since her middle 100’s, she took a likening for sports, all kind of sports. She tried out various sports, but she got kicked out of team sports because she often killed the opponents to archive victory. Zynca seems to have talent in any sports she tries, but the violence comes in her way. Funny thing is, that Blood Bowl has never entered her mind to try out for. But now the time has come, and she hopes that a team wants to recruit her.

An Assassin could be an option, but so far we have 1 Blitzer, 1 Runner, 1 Witch Elf and 2 Linemen... not quite enough for a team (still waiting on Deroths character too).

We could use another 2 Linemen and maybe an additional Runner or Blitzer, I will consider an assassin once the linemen positions are filled.

I want to get this started soon so please sign up! Edit - In fact I am going to open the game thread tonight, we can roleplay introductions while sign up continues.

I will also use this space to explain how the RPG will actually work, and what the statistics, actions and dice rolls involved will be. There will also be lots of fun suprises.

THE STATISTICS;

Movement Allowance (M): How fast your character can run and move around.
Agility (A): How good your character is at dodging blocks, thrown items etc.
Strength (T): The physical strength of your character, used for blocking, throwing etc.
Toughness (T): The physical toughness of your character, used to prevent knockdowns, injuries etc.
Dexterity (D): How good your character is with their hands, used for catching, throwing etc.

You need to distribute up to 18 points, with at least 1 point in each stat and no more than 5 points in a single stat.

Runners and Witch Elves get armour in the form of: Light Gear (+1 AV)
Linemen get armour in the form of: Standard Gear (+2 AV / -1 A)
Blitzers get armour in the form of: Heavy Gear (+3 AV / -1 M / -1 A)

(do not make these modifications in your profile or the negatives will be counted twice! These are only used some of the time)

AV is Armour Value. Armour Value is determined by T + Gear. So a T5 Blitzer has an Armour Value of 8. The higher the better as with all stats.

The RPG will run at a pretty constant rate. I will only post large modposts where necessary. Most of the time I will just add in purple the result of certain actions, such as whether a throw was made or a catch successful. It's up to you guys to play with each other at the pace you set for yourselves. You need to communicate (by shouting over the pitch), but your manager (Me) might shout some abuse if you're not pulling your weight. Since most of the time you can do what you want, here are some of the things you could attempt...

These are just the basic moves you can perform, and the basic stat and dice rolling principals involed with doing so, but you are free to attempt whatever you want to.

Move - Running down the pitch, pretty basic really. The higher your (M) the faster you will go. When two people both run for the same thing at the same time it is Distance - Movement = Time. So, if two people run from the same spot for the same thing, the fastest will always win. Well, unless something happens to them along the way of course!

Block - Ram into someone who is next to, near or passing you in an attempt to knock them down. First your Agilities are rolled off, and if the blocker hits then his Strength is rolled against the other players Toughness. If they fail that test too then they are knocked down. A Dexterity test will then determine what happens with the ball if they had it. In some cases an injury test may also need to be taken using their Armour Value.

Blitz - Basically a Move + Block in one, or charging someone. A Block which is also a Blitz will have a negative modifier on the primary Agility test.

Foul - Attacking someone who is knocked down. There is an Agility test as with a Block, but with a high Agility modifier for the downed player. There is also a test to see whether or not the referee catches the foul. This is usually a 50-50 chance, but can be modified by his position, bribes etc. (or if he is dead and no longer present, no test!). A successful foul will lead straight to injury with no AV test allowed.

Throw - Passing the ball to a player who is not directly beside you. There is a Dexterity test for success and aim, which may have modifiers if you are being attacked or distracted, followed by a Strength test modified by range. The intended target may then have to test to catch.

Hand-Off - Passing the ball to a player who is directly beside you. Unlike with a Throw there is no strength test for range and no Dexterity test for aim. The other player will still need to test to catch though.

Catch - Catching a ball that was thrown or handed off your way. You will have to take a Dexterity test modified by the incoming range of the ball or projectile. If the aim of the throw was bad an Agility test may also be required to 'get back under the ball'.

Intercept - Quite a spectacular feat on the field indeed! Provided the ball is thrown over your head from one player to another, you can attempt to intercept the throw. Long range throws can only be intercepted at near and end range, in the middle of the throw the ball will be too high to intercept. Intercepting requires an Agility and Dexterity test.

If you are simply testing on your own statistic, you must roll equal to or under that number on a dice. So for example; testing Dexterity on D4 means you need to roll a 1, 2, 3 or 4 to pass (and a 5 or 6 will fail)

If you are testing against another statistic, they are compared. So if you perform a Block, your Strength is tested against their Toughness.

If your Strength is higher, a 1, 2, 3 or 4 will pass.
If your Strength is equal, a 1, 2 or 3 will pass
If your Strength is less, only a 1 or 2 will pass.

So for example, testing S5 against T3 you need to roll a 1, 2, 3 or 4 to pass (and a 5 or 6 will fail).

In the case of an injury being attempted (due to a foul, an aggressive block [roleplayed], or an outright attack) you test Strength against AV as follows.

To save, you must roll equal to or under AV-S. So for example, an AV7 Blitzer fouled by a S4 Lineman would need to roll a 1, 2 or 3 to avoid injury (7-4 = 3). Other modifiers (like weapons) may apply.

If injured, I then roll another dice and consult the injury table.

1 - Knocked Out - the player must be removed to the dug out until further notice.
2 - Seriously Injured - the player must stay down for 1 minute and must then pass a S test to get up.
3 - Badly Injured - the player must stay down for minute but can then get up.
4 - No further effect, play on!
5 - No further effect, play on!
6 - No further effect, play on!

Every injury you receive in a single match will knock the lowest result off this table.
So after 1 injury you can no longer roll a 6 (those will be rerolled).
After 2 injuries, you can only roll a 1-4 on the chart.
After 5 injuries you will be knocked out if injured again.

I hope it all makes sense. Ask any questions here please. This will be the OOC thread too.

Is it too late to join in?

You can't have a team without at least one assassin in it. If it's not too late to join in, I would like to fill in the role as an assassin. (They can blitz block too, or run a ball- game wise anyway)

But I'll be a lineman if that's what we really need.

Hope I can join in, I'll create a character if I'm accepted.
What's mine is mine, What's yours is mine.
Now that we understand each other, lets get down to business.

Yes you can still join. I'd like to add more Linemen really. Get a character up for approval and then move it to the player profiles thread with your chosen stats.

All the other characters above are approved. Please make a copy in the Player Profiles thread and pick your stats.
