Group 35 - the real deal this time!

Post by Carathyle maveric »

“From the start of the Great Sundering till this date, the Druchii have known all but victory against our former kinsmen. Lord Malekith and his loyal followers were pushed off the great island of Ulthuan for their treason toward the Phoenix Throne. But it’s them who are the traitors! Not us!

Ow my fellow mercenaries, we all know the tales of great dragons, soaring the skies and roaring out loud their deafening voice, it must have been won…”
“Sir, come to the point please!” One of the 15 mercenaries spoke as they looked at their comrade and rival. “Thanks for interrupting. Okay, listen up! So… there I was, in the house of Vanity, noblemen of Valikyra. One of the greatest…” “Sir, you’re drunk again!” The commander waved violently toward the youngster. “Shut up Lad!” he said, before falling off the table onto the ground. Everbody laughed and had a great time… until the door was slammed wide open. All eyes were turned toward the door.

In the door opening, a female Druchii warrior stood, two noble-looking swordsmen, armed with two swords and a shield. Shield on their arms and the swords in their sheaths. The female walked into the Inn and looked around. “We are looking for the following of you scum: Kailleth Blackthorn, Korvus Blackheat, Senluthan Redskull and Sirenis Helbane.” The female yelled through the Battering Horse, the Inn that everyone was in.“Dude, you know who those guys are? They’re from House Vanity! They only hire those who they think are capable.” The rumour spread through the inn like a wild fire, and soon everyone recognized the emblem that was painted on the steel breastplate, decorated with blackened steel rims and full of scratches. Three males and one female raised to their feet, spread over the Inn. “You four, with me! Don’t try anything stupid.” She said as she saw the four mercenaries get to their feet. “Two Khainites and two Warriors… not a bad recruitment this round.” The four mercenaries walked over to the female and followed her outside.

Slowly, the amount of guards appeared to be six, instead of two. All with the same weaponry, there was little chance if they wanted to try anything. The women boarded one Carriage with the four mercenaries, and the remaining guards.

The journey was long, and really bumpy, yet there were no attack or anything. The women was fairly quiet, only talking to one of the guards as if they were lovers of some sort. After a couple of what seemed days, were actually hours, the carriage stopped and the guards disembarked along with the fully armoured merc’s. The female was the last to step out of the wagon and walked straight toward the first set of doors. “In here please.” She asked kindly, after which she gestured the merc’s to enter.

Once the mercenaries were inside, a female druchii in a black dress approached. “Are you the mercenaries that the guard captain called out of the Battering Horse? Please follow me.” She said, as she turned around and walked toward one of the rooms and entered it. Like pets, the mercenaries were intrigued because of the gold and followed the fine noble. With black hair, dancing across her back, the noble turned around and waited for the mercenaries to join her in the room.

The room was lit by candles and the decoration was rather Spartan to say the most. A couple of chairs were placed randomly across the room, a desk, a couple of closets and a great amount of scrolls were allocated across the entire room.

“My lord will be here shortly, please make yourselves comfortable.” She said, as she walked to leave the room.

So… You are all in the room, so I suggest you get acquainted with one another. The female is still in the room though leaving so if you want to harass here with comments, you still can. Though physically harassing her is… well, foolish to put it bluntly.

The moment the female druchii and her two guards entered Senluthan started observing them, their posture and equipment. And when his name got called along with three others, he looked for facial expressions on all of them. While looking as everything is planned himself. Just before he stood up, he unlocked his weapons readying them for anything, loosened his cloak, and started stimulating his anger to be prepared to go in a frenzy the moment anything unexpected happened.
When they got outside and he saw 4 other guards, he thought this is gonna be a tough one if they decide to backstab us, i wonder if I went into a frenzy what the other three would do. But afterall being a mercenary and the opportunity of getting a job kept him from doing anything and just wait and observe.
The long ride in the wagon, Senluthan kept playing with the dagger to do something and to be prepared to throw it, or stab anybody who tries anything. At last when they were led from the wagon and in to the room, he stopped stimulating his frenzy knowing, that if fight breaks loose it is way more dangerous being in a frenzy than not, and therefore preparing to kill anybody before getting in to close range. That way he could hopefully stay out of his frenzy.

Senluthan grab hold off the dagger under the loosened cloak, and put himself to stand against the wall where he can see the exit. He will stay put and just observe. If anybody ask him a question he wil answer using as few words as possible.

Kailleth laughed as the captain slumped to the floor but the entertainment was short lived as a the door burst open and a cold wind swept through the bar, a woman stepped in to the bar fallowed by her retainers and started shouting names and orders. Kailleth sipped his wine as he watched the new comers and the talk that spread through the bar like fire he then noted all the mercenary’s around him started to slowly edge away from him. He sighed and drained the contents of his cup. Kailleth stood and looked at the new comers grabbing the jug of wine from the table “this better be more important than me getting drunk” kailleth then walked over to the woman with the others and fallowed then in to the coach.

Kailleth surveyed the occupants or the carriage looking from the tall worrier to the female kainite to the male kainite who was playing with his dagger earning dangerous looks from the guards, as kailleth finessed he leant his head against the wall and dosed off. When he woke they had reached their destination and where escorted in side, as they took their seats kailleth saw that the male kainite was on edge and watching the door. Kailleth grabbed a chair and sat facing the door silently waiting for the employer not willing to break the quiet atmosphere the 4 sheared

killeth will sit and wait for the lord to come. If anyone talks to him he will respond

With little conversation, the four mercenaries waited carefully in the room that they were assigned to, not knowing what to expect from their new employer. After a good look around the room, they all found that it wasn't a place suitable for combat, nor was it a place suitable for anything other then briefings and debriefings.

Books stacked to the ceiling, scrolls unravelled on the desk, inkwells and quails neatly placed around the room, it was hardly any doubt that this was a briefing room, or at least a study room.

The room had two doors, one through which the mercenaries came, and one that led to a place unknown. With the doors slamming open, 4 guards walked into the room and stood next to the doorposts, securing the room for anyone that would enter. Within moments from the guards, a, what appeared to be, noblemen entered the room, followed by two high ranking officers. The three were already busy talking, and a couple of words could be caught by the ears of the mercenaries. "I know that, I wouldn't hire mercenaries to do something that smallish if they can probably wipe out the whole lair. My subordinates know what they are doing sergeant, and I expect you to have the same faith in that as I do." one of them said, presumably the lord of house Vanity, as they entered the room. "Ah, gentlemen... and lady, good to see you. Now, you probably wish to know why you were summoned by me, it's only logical. So, here's the thing, I won't pay in advance, only when you've completed the task, here's the job." The man walked behind the desk and leaned for over. With a quick glare to his officers, the man returned his eyes to the four mercenaries. "You will escort my son toward Hag Graef, along with 1 captain, 4 guards and a captured captain of an army that we all know a bit too well. The captive and my son have to remain alive, you'll hand him to the ruler of Hag Graef, the captain knows who that is, you've already met her. Are you up for the job?" The man stood up straight and looked the mercenaries one by one in the eyes.

There you have it, the assignment. Take it, or leave it! But if you leave it, you can't really play along :P

Kinslayer missed the deadline unannounced, therefore I'll only scold you for now, since its the busiest time of the year, just don't make it happen again ^_^

Archon_Matt missed the deadline announced, however, I would prefer that he fixes his problem ASAP.

OOC - Sorry guys, I didn't realise we'd be starting on Christmas Day, which explains why I didn't post after the first modpost. I'm here now though...

Korvus was lost in a daydream as he sat at the bar and held a glass of wine, replaying the events from earlier that day in his mind. His lip was split, and he remembered the tail end of a large warhammer having caught him in the mouth and inflicted such an injury. He wiggled his now loose tooth with his tongue, and rocked back in his chair slightly. He winced at the pain in his ribs, for more than one of them had been bruised when the big man with the hammer had landed him a glancing blow. The warrior swirled his wine around in the glass, a deep red liquid no doubt brought to the land of the Druchii after being stolen from Ulthuan. He smiled as he remembered how he had ended the fight, striking off the other gladiators' head with a sweep of his glaive after disarming him, much to the cheering delight of the crowd. The victory had paid him well, not with gold coin but with his freedom, the right to live on, for a while at least.

Another blood debt repaid, Korvus thought as he turned from the bar, wine still in one hand as he stood up and propped himself against his glaive as though it were a spear, or a walking cane. There was a drunk man standing on a table, babbling something about dragons and great victories. Korvus paid him no mind, he had no interest in hearing other peoples great tales of adventure and victory. He was not here to listen to theirs, he was here to make stories of his own. Unfortunately, going out and looking for blood often meant he found it, and now Korvus was wanted dead by some nobles, and worse would happen if he was captured by others. He could no longer return home either, for after his father had learned of the deaths of his brothers in the Witch Kings' army, he had sworn to go out and live with honour as they had done, rather than live his life as a hired guard, a pit fighter, a gladiator... he wanted to see the real world, fight a real fight.

Just then, someone interruped his thoughts by calling his name. It was a female Druchii captain, flanked by two mean looking guards. Oh great, who have I upset this time? he wondered for a moment, his fingers tensing around the haft of his glaive. The long bladed weapon stood almost as tall as him when he held it touching the floor at his side, and he was more than a little experienced in weilding it in a fight. If these guards were looking for trouble, they had come to the right place. As it happened, three other mercenaries made their way outside too, and Korvus relaxed a little. Maybe they're just looking for workers... he thought, wondering how they had been called by time. True enough, he now had quite the reputation, but it was the first time he had been called out by name. How had they even known where to find him?

He followed the rest of the mercenaries outside, and watched as four more guards surrounded them and led them to a coach. The coach in turn led them to the fortified manor of a noble, and there they were ushered into a small waiting room. The female captain left them for a while, during which time nobody seemed willing to speak to one another. Korvus decided to spend the time assessing his new companions, still unsure whether they were to be friends or enemies in the arena. He looked them over one by one, a warrior and two Khainites. Eventually, the lord of the house came to speak to them, explaining that he needed his son transporting, and no doubt protecting, from here to Hag Graef. Korvus stretched his neck from left to right, lowering his glaive slightly as to cause no affront, and looked at the dark noble.

"And who do I have the honour of assisting? Tell me your name and the name of your son. And then tell me how and why you sent for me by name. Is no other up to this job, save us four? It begs the question... why must your son be moved?"

Korvus didn't really care if his questions hit a raw nerve with his employer. At best, he would have his answers. At worst, he'd be fighting his way back out of the house to the dark streets outside.

Senluthan keeps observing the room considering advantages if it comes to fighting, how he will kick the table and throw books and scrolls for distraction while trying to focus his frenzy on the guards. If it comes to that he will be ready. While considering this, the words slowly gets to him; First there are us 4 mercenaries enough to take out the whole lair, what lair? this one? we should be able to do that.
Although i don't know how the other fights, but the tallest warrior looks pretty experienced judging from that small injury he had. the other warrior looks customed to recieving orders he was probably a watchmen earlier with those tatoos, and his awareness probably came after he became a mercenary or on protection missions. but tonight he have probably had a drink too much to do much killing. And a female khainite, they allways knows how to take lifes. All in all the four of us will make a fine team.

After these thoughts the next thing came to mind. Protection, have we been called here for escort?! great then I have to watch my frenzy, i just end up killing the whole party my self if we get attacked, should i just back out of this? on the other hand we are going to Hag Graeff, maybe after we deliver the boy i can make use of the others and get my revenge.
Senluthan keeps observing the others if it comes down to go on a mission together it is good to know your comrades, and if it comes to fighting to know anything about the enemy making use of any knowledge he has.

having thought all this Senluthan wait for the reply for the tall warriors question. And if the replies are satisfying he will declare that he is ready for the trip.

kailleth watched as the Nobel walked over to the desk and out lined the mission, he flinched as he heard hag greaf but grinned as he thought of returning to the cite. Then he looked over to see the tall worrier string. He lowered his glaive slightly then started questioning the lord of the house, Kailleth’s grin widened as he watched the exchange. Well ether he has a death wish or he’s new to dealing with clients, but he makes a point. Kailleth leaned forward in his seat and studied the guards then the face of the lord watching for any sing or signal that would lead to conflicted, seeing no sing of danger he cleared his throat and added to the worriers questions “on top of all that why where we specifically sent for,… is there any prominent blood feuds we should know of,…. and what’s this escort job pay?” Kailleth said counting each question off his fingers.

Kailleth will remain seated and look directly at the Nobel studying his body language,

OOC: Internet problem fixed, I'm sorry about the delayed post!

IC: Sirenis stood in a shadowy corner of the Battering Horse Inn, swilling a glass of water as she watched a drunken fool rant and rave about the Sundering and the grand destiny of the Druchii.
Like all Druchii of his generation, she thought, he is too caught up in the defeats of the past to worry about the battles of the present.
Her thoughts were suddenly interrupted by the banging of the great wooden door of the inn and the entrance of a noble-looking she-Elf flanked by two armed guards. Thinking nothing of it, Sirenis began to turn back to her thoughts, only to be interrupted by the howling of the she-Elf.

"...and Sirenis Helbane!"

Sirenis looked up, her hands fingering the hilt of the dagger which was strapped to her thigh.
Helbane? She must be mistaken. Perhaps she refers to another Sirenis, for I am no Helbane...
The she-Elf looked directly into Sirenis' eyes as she barked, "You four! With me!"
Without a thought, Sirenis was up and out the door, following a tall male Druchii clad in a strange black cloak and some kind of meteoric iron. After a short walk, the four mercenaries were ushered into a horse-drawn carriage. Sirenis' face was a blank slate as the carriage trundled along the dusty roads of Naggaroth, her mind on the she-Elf's strange slip of the tongue.

After a journey that seemed to last forever, the carriage came to a halt and the mercenaries were once again bundled out of the vehicle and ushered into a barely furnished room. Sirenis now turned her mind to the present, to the situation at hand. The she-Elf continued with her niceties, politely but firmly ordering the group to stay in the room and wait for a master of some sort. Sirenis ignored the female, instead observing each of her companions in turn. There was the strangely clad warrior, who stood, brooding or thinking intently, by the door. A red-haired male, clad in a cloak and leather pants, stood against a wall, giving off a haughty air. His right hand was thrust into his cloak - no doubt the Elf was fiddling with a hidden dagger. It's not really hidden if you're always fumbling with it, Khainite, thought Sirenis. Don't do anything stupid. Turning her attention away from the Khainite, Sirenis cast her gaze over the last of her companions - an armoured warrior who sat in a chair by the door, observing the proceedings. Clever, Sirenis thought. Khaine willing, you will stay as silent for the rest of this farce as you are now; maybe then, we'll get out of here alive.

"-know what they are doing, and I expect you to have the same faith in that as I do."

A door to Sirenis' left swung open and an effete nobleman entered the room, flanked by two officers of some sort. The nobleman pranced over to a desk and, resting his hands upon the surface, began to explain that he had a job for the mercenaries - some kind of escort mission, taking his son and some foolish general to Hag Graef.

"Are you up for the job?" the nobleman asked. His question was immediately followed by a swathe of queries from the two warriors. The one clad in meteoric iron began the wave of questions with several impolite inquiries into the nature of the job, the name of the nobleman's son, and the reason for the summoning of the four mercenaries by name. The second warrior followed this torrent with a tidal wave of his own:
"On top of all that, why were we specifically sent for...is there any prominent blood feuds we should know of...and what's this escort job pay?"

Before the nobleman could answer the questions, Sirenis shifted her weight and began to speak in a soft, feminine voice:

"My companions ask many pertinent questions. Your job offer is suspicious at best, and trained warriors such as ourselves are not willing to put our lives on the line for...suspicious work, much less work that does not pay in advance. Nevertheless, I am willing to take this job, and I'm sure that my friends here will join me, as long as you acquiesce to the following conditions. Firstly, we are to be paid half of the job's reward in advance. I'm sure you're familiar with the term 'half now, half later'? A prosperous nobleman such as yourself should have no qualms about offering his subordinates this very common courtesy. Speaking of prosperity, I notice that your men are clad in fine armour and armed with forged steel. On the other hand, our party is forced by poverty to clothe ourselves with cloths and wools and to arm ourselves with poorly forged iron and pitted steel. Considering that we are to protect your son, fruit of your loins and heir to your house, perhaps you might consider providing our party with a selection from your abundant armoury? If my lord might consider agreeing to those terms, then our party can happily take this contract, knowing that we serve a benevolent master."

As Sirenis asked her questions, she kept a watchful eye on the Khainite, who continued to hold his dagger, his eyes darting about the room as if he were planning something. Don't give us trouble, Elf, Sirenis thought.

Sirenis accompanies the party to the room, listening and watching. When everyone is finished asking their questions, Sirenis speaks her part. When she is finished, she will bow to the nobleman as a mark of respect and use this movement to get closer to Senluthan. If Senluthan makes any kind of violent move, Sirenis will attempt to restrain him.

Hearing the small amount of information that the noble gave, the mercenaries were wondering about the safety of the job. Unleashing a vast amount of questions, both Korvus as Kailleth wanted to know more of their... employer to make sure they don't take up any surprises.

"But of course I can give you the name, but I think the rumours in the Battered Horse ought to explain all. I'm Karo'eth Vanity, Lord of house Vanity, ruling house of Valikyra. My son has to... attend to a diplomatic issue in Hag Graef, mainly for the exchange of the captive. In addition, my son will introduce himself to you. And as you might have heard already, we of house Vanity take great interest in potential workers. We only hire the once we find... suitable for the job. I find that this should be enough information for you... for now at least." the noble spoke, replying to the first set of questions.

Then he turned to the female Khainite, who tried to negotiate on the terms. "I'm sure you all are familiar to the term, I will not pay in advance, not half, not a coin. I have bad experience with this system and I will not have the same thing happen to me twice. There is a rivalling family, so you will be tagging along with 15 of my guards."

"On the other hand, I have noticed that you are wearing either gladiator armour, medium guards armour, or none to little armour at all. I wish to accept to that term however, one of my officers along with two guards will escort you to our armoury. You can pick 1 set of armour if you don't mind the emblem of house Vanity, weapons are for the picking, but do remind yourself that light weight travel is better then exhausting yourself or immobilize yourself." the noble paused for a few seconds, looking at the four mercenaries for any physical reaction, then looked toward the four guards and the officers.

"Now... on the the more, shocking news. The payment will variate on how you perform. If both my son as the captive survive and meet the exchange, you will be paid greatly. Around the 1000 circlets exclusive any bonuses, which will be indicated by both my son as by the escorting captain. However, if the captive dies, you will only receive half. If the captive escapes, you will only receive a quarter of the promised. So I suggest, when the captive escapes, you kill him. My son is the priority, if something happens to him... you will not receive anything... at all! If you are unhappy about these terms, there's the door and you are allowed to leave. How you get back to the Battered Horse is up to you." The noble said, having a feature that contained only a serious look.

"Did I make myself clear?"

So... the noble is hard to bargain with, but then again, he belongs to one of the richest families in the city. You have his answer on the terms, now decide whether you accept the job, or not.

Sirenis listened to Karo'eth's terms, her gaze flitting in quick glances between the Khainite, the nobleman, and his guards.

"It is regrettable that you find us unworthy of an advance, Lord Vanity." Sirenis paused, weighting and selecting her words with care. "I'm sure, however, that this simply means that you would rather pay for our expenses on the trip out of your own pocket than have us do the same. It warms my heart to know that my lord has such compassion for his underlings. Similarly, your offer of the finest arms and armour of House Vanity as a boon to our party is a great gift that we will use wisely."

Sirenis looked to the other mercenaries for a sign of support as she began to speak once more: "Assuming that my lord will not change his mind about offering an advance, however small, our negotiations are over. I see no reason to refuse my lord's offer; as for my companions...?"

Sirenis accepts, although she is trying to weasel the nobleman out of an advance, however small. She is also trying to work another term into the conversation in a fairly implicit manner: if the nobleman will not pay an advance, he will pay every expense that the party accrues during the trip.

The lord seaming to way the concerns of the mercenaries in his head then come to a conclusion, as he addressed them, kailleth listened intently with his hands clasped in front of him and his eyes scanning the room and its occupants.

Kailleth watched as the female kainite added her wait to the conversation and held his breath as the lord listened.

After the kainite was finessed kailleth fell in to thought. hummmm well for escort with this size of a house guard the only reason you need 4 mercenary’s and pay us this much…he needs someone expendable… and he doesn’t think were coming back alive, kailleth chuckled to himself and raised from his chair and looked the lord of the house in the eyes and said with a wolfish grin “very clear sir… when dose the escort leave and where is this armory of your?

Kailleth paused and looked to the others to see if they would take the job too and if they had anything to add. Well if I die they’ll probably rip the armour off my corpse but if I survive the money and armour will be a good prize and if anything goes wrong I could always just ransom the lord’s sun back to him or his enemy’s… what’s too lose.

Kailleth is standing with his arms crossed waiting for the rest of the group to give their answers

Korvus' lip had curled into a cold sneer, a small habit he had inherited from his father and one that was often best controlled in the presence of a highborn. The noble had named himself and his goal, and the reason he needed them in particular to fulfil it. The warrior had no qualms with this, and nodded his head in understanding as all the information was revealed. The noble even offered them the option of browsing in his house armoury, which as far as he could tell was what had made him sneer. My weapons and armour serve me just fine as they are, you'll see... and I will bare no mark save that of House Blackheart. The only piece of equipment the gladiator was missing was a shield, but he doubted it would compliment his fighting style.

He liked to hold his glaive in both hands, one just below the blade and the other towards the end of the shaft. In doing so, he could sweep the weapon left and right in short, powerful strokes, or upwards in diagonal or even vertical cuts. When he needed more reach, he could simply slide his front hand towards the end of the shaft as he swung, creating a wider sweep with less precision in the cut. Of course, he sometimes took the weapon in a firm one handed grip, held tightly below the blade, and used it almost like a sword with a club like pole attatchment for parrying. If he were to take a shield, he wasn't sure where he would put it. Perhaps a small buckler I can afix to my off-hand wrist? he considered, still standing idly near the door.

When everyone else seemed to be done asking questions, Korvus spoke up once again.

"Forgive me, Karo'eth Vanity, but my geography of these parts is minimal. I was brought here to fight in the arena, and left to wander once my time there was done. How exactly do we reach Hag Graef from this City, is it far?"

Between his cold sneer and his lack of the term Lord for the powerful noble, Korvus was sure he had once again caused an insult. But he always liked it better that way.

Watching the scene play out, and the female khainite approach him with her gesture Senluthan prepared her dagger to take her out first. And then the lord spoke, But of course I can give you the name ... And as he replyed the questions Senluthan slowly lowered his dagger. But stayed on guard as the tall warrior insulted the Lord again. And the female khainite made one desperate try to get a bit more money out of the noble.
And then Senluthan finally spoke with a clear voice Are we scouted for this particular job, or do you plan to give us other assignments based on how we do? Cause i can't help thinking if we are scouted for this particular job with 15 guards and a captain, and neither of us being shades that you either want someone to sacrifice, or you want to test us for further use. So which one is it my lord? Never the less, I don't have any better to do, and if you want to use us as a sacrifice at least we will get som action. About weapons i would rather keep the ones i am used to, but would like to switch my cloak with a Sea dragon cloak. So when are we leaving my lord? And with those words he put his dagger back to its sheath and just laying his hand on it. As he speak he will take a step out in the room.

Senluthan declares his accept, waiting for the lords reply standing a bit from the wall, with one hand resting on his dagger. He will change his cloak with a sea dragon cloak.

Hearing all the words, the noble sighed. Turning his back toward the mercenaries, the noblemen looked at the wall that contained the map of naggaroth. "The captain that will accompany you will keep the expenses in check. Go over the budget that has been assigned to each of you, and it will come off of your payment. Drinks however, assuming you'll remain 2 to 3 nights in Hag Graef, are all on my cost. See that as a little treat when the jobs half done. Korvus, I assume that you weren't taught to speak to nobles in an... honourable fashion, so I'll make it quick. You'll speak to me by using the words Lord Vanity, or my lord. But since you were probably raised in the arena, I'll excuse you for that minor mistake. Hag Graef is pretty far off to the north, as we're near Arnheim. It's one of the larger cities in our humble, cold country. So yes, the journey can variate from one week to a month." The lord said, pointing at the two cities on the map. As he turned around to face the mercenaries, the nobleman looked straight toward Senluthan. "First of all, I suggest you get your hand off of that dagger. If I would have wished you dead, you would be dead no matter what you try. Now, to answer your question, I'm looking for an additional strike force to either function as a bodyguard for me or my family, and to function as a method to suppress any... riot or rebellion." The noble was swift with his words, making sure it was clear to the Khainite that whether or not he tried, he would eventually fall if he tried anything, either by bolt, arrow or a sword.

Hearing no more questions, and Kailleth's enthusiasm to start off, the noble was glad that the 'negotiations' were done. "My guards will lead you to the armoury. The caravan of two carriages will depart as soon as you are ready with outfitting yourself. Divide yourself over the two, as one of them contains my son and the other the captive." As he signalled the guards to lead the mercenaries to the armoury, the noble sat down behind the desk.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

So, you are in the armoury by the beginning of your post. Grab what ever you want, and if you don't want anything, go outside and choice one of the carriages to sit in for the journey.

Next deadline, 2 days.

as the group was escorted in to the armoury kailleth grinned as the light from witch globe danced across the weapon racks. Kailleth wasted little time and walked to the back of the armoury where the armour stands lined the walls and studied the versus suits of armour after a moment he started striping he’s won light armour off and replaced it with a heavier suit of medium armour that offered more durability and didn’t completely hinder his flexibility, the armour was simple and out site of the houses emblem was a flat black cooler with no inlays or oddments, as kailleth examined the armour the feamal kainite how had followed him to the armour stands approached him and stated asking questions, that kailleth replayed to in a quiet and emotionless tone . “the lord? Well he’s not telling us everything… and he doesn’t think where coming back alive but I’ve worked for worse. And I go by kailleth of house Blackthorn”

As he buckled on the glaives he noticed a small thumb knife siting discarded at the base of the armour stand, kailleth bent down and grabbed it and studied the serrated blade nicking his finger as he ran it over the edge, satisfied he slipped it in his left glaive. After clasping his cloak back over his shoulder, buckling his swords back on and testing his rang of movement in the armour, kailleth continued walking along the wall till he saw a small set of chains and manacles hanging on the wall and casually reached up and plucked a pair of manacles from the wall and clasped them to his belt content with his pickings kailleth walked back towards the door,

As he past the weapons racks he stopped and grabbed a hand bow and two extra clips and also secured them to his belt. As kailleth walked to the armoury door the guard waiting there looked him up and down and scowled as he passed, kaillrth ignoring the guard kept walking out in to the court yard where the two carriages sat with a guard outside each. Kailleth walked over to one of them and asked the gourd in a friendly tone “is this the captive’s carriages of the lord’s son’s?” the guard spat on the ground and sneered at kailleth, “the captives” the guard said in a haggard voice. Kailleth grinned and opened the carriages door and disappeared in side.

Kailleth is in the captives carriage waiting to leave Kailleth has discarded his light armour and taken 1 hand bow 2 extra hand bow clips 1 wrist manacles 1 thumb knife, 1 suit of medium armour

Sirenis smiled sweetly at the nobleman's answer and followed the silent warrior to the rear of the armoury, where many suits of House Vanity armour rested on mannequins of pine. As the warrior examined the pieces of armour in front of him, Sirenis sidled up next to him and pretended to examine armour for herself, talking in a quiet voice so as not to be heard by any guards that may have followed them into storeroom.

"So what do you think of Karo'eth? He seems like a bit of a pushover, if I may say. And what about you, warrior - what name do you go by?"

After hearing the warrior's response, Sirenis began to move independently throughout the armoury, collecting pieces of armour: a pair of robes, an ankle-length chain skirt, a chain shirt, vambraces, gauntlets, sabatons, cuisses, pauldrons, a cuirass, a mail bevor, and a pointed burgonet to cover her head. Excusing herself, Sirenis asked the gladiator to escort her to a side-room and assist her in armouring herself. As the gladiator assisted her in attaching the plates of her armour, Sirenis introduced herself and shot off a few questions.

"What is your name, Elf? Where are you from? What do you think of Lord Vanity?"

With her questions answered and her body armoured, Sirenis bid the warrior goodbye and forged a swift path back to the armoury, attempting to intercept the Khainite before he would be able to make his way to the carriages.

So Sirenis takes a suit of heavy armour and a helmet. Whilst acquiring these, she fires of some questions at Kailleth. When he has finished responding, she will take her suit of armour and ask Korvus to help her put it on in a nearby private space. Assuming he accepts this request, she asks the above questions while he is armouring her. Lastly, Sirenis will beat a path back to the armoury and attempt to catch Senluthan before he leaves the room. If she does, she will tell him that she wishes for him to ride in the son's carriage with her. Whether he accepts or not, she will be jumping in the son's carriage.

OOC Morning star is a mace with spikes right? and not with a chain?

IC Senluthan makes a gesture to the lord with both hands I meant no offense my lord
Then Senluthan follows the other to the armoury, where he begins with finding a leather armour to take the worst blow, and a sea dragon cloak, which he replaces his own cloak with. Afterwards he takes a look at the weapons in the armoury, picking up some swords to see the balance and the grip of these, hearing the other khainite start talking about lord Vanity with one of the warriors, and the asking the other warrior to a private talk discuised as help to get the heavy armour on. What is she planning? during the briefing she tried and get closer to me, and now she tries to hear our oppinoin about Lord Vanity. better keep my eyes on her

Senluthan pick a morning star And on his way out, the female khainite came for him, inviting Senluthan to ride in the sons carriage with him. fine, then i get opportunity to keep an eye on her, before she stabs the other in the back.

Senluthan rides in the sons carriage with Sirenis, and discard his mace obtain a leather armour, a sea dragon cloak and a morning star.

OOC - A mace is a ball and chain (more than one chain and it's a flail instead), a morning star is a pole ended in a spiked ball. Most people get that wrong though.

IC - Korvus followed the rest of the group to the armoury, and watched as they helped themselves to the ample supply of weaponry and wargear that was on show. It seemed they could help themselves to anything they wanted, and with the others taking so many weapons Korvus almost felt it would be rude not to. The warrior in him was also telling him that it was all too possible he might one day soon end up fighting any one of these other mercenaries, and that if they were tooling up then so should he. As such, he looked through the shields on display for a small, undecorated buckler he could affix to his off-hand wrist, preferable one made of black or dark purple iron like the rest of his armour. He also decided to pick up a few small sidearms, looking for a long dagger and a short morning star like club only fit for use in a single hand.

Korvus then accepted the female elfs offer of watching her get changed, or helping her as she had called it. The warrior stood by her and helped her put her new armour on, checking each and every piece for its weaknesses as he did so. While he was subconciously doing so, she introduced herself as Sirenis and began to ask him questions. Korvus wasn't shy by anyones standards, and he had nothing to hide in revealing who he was. In fact, doing so often served him well, for he was a dangerous man and he liked others to know about it.

"My name is Korvus, last remaining son of the Blackhearts. I hail from Naggarond, the Capital of the Witch King, hence why I find myself in an unfamiliar place.

Lord Vanity? What's not to like... he just gave me a free shield and the promise of blood and gold."

With that, Korvus made his way outside and took the last spot in the captives caravan, sitting down beside Kaiileth with a nod of greeting.

"Looks like I ride with you. Let's not make this journey a silent one, what's your story?"

Quick OOC: Actually, a morning star is a mace with spikes, a mace is a club, and a flail has chains. Close, but no cigar :P (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mace_(club))

OOC: First of all, for OOC discussions, there's the OOC thread. So I prefer to see those only there, and near none here.

Modpost:

With their equipment checked, and each and every mercenary known with Serenis or rather, she knows each and everyone of them. With a nice new set of armour, she and Senluthan sat in the same carriage as the whole convoy started to move.

With 5 guards extra in each carriage, there were 3 guards and the captain on horse back around and the drivers of the carriage were 2 guards as well. Though the cargo value was among the highest there is, since it contained a noble's heir and a high value prisoner, the amount of guards was excessive, even by Druchii standards.

The convey left the city with ease, and though the journey was long, the landscape variation was unbelievable for those who haven't seen it once before. Snow covered grass, and forests were easily visible from afar. Vast moutain ranges were merely appeared to be cut off by clouds. Slowly, yet effectively, the group went further and further away from Valikyra. In the very far distance, almost out of sight, they could see Arnheim. As the convey moved, and days passed, guard duty shifted along with them, sometimes the guards were lazy and didn’t switch at all but that didn’t matter much as the path before them was clear except for a couple of beggars and travellers.

However, after 4 days of travel, and now around the large city of Clar Karond yet not close or in, a group of 12, cloaked strangers appeared on the road, about a mile away, in clear sight. Ordering the convoy to halt before coming to close, the captain of the group, nicely named Karinthia, ordered all guards out of the convoy, and onto the road. ”Mercenaries, you as well. It’s time to prove your upkeep.” She yelled, still mounted on horseback. The strangers appeared to be in no hurry, and slowly walked closely to the convoy, as it appeared to be their objective.

Little is known about the stranger except for that they are cloaked. You can all add the chosen weaponry and you have 2 days to ready your characters for possible combat. Riders and Guards are all wearing Medium armour along with a shield. Guards have swords around their waist and a crossbow on their backs. The riders have a crossbow on their backs, a bastard sword sheathed on the saddle, and a sword around their waist. They have a spear in their hand.

NOW… GO!

Korvus almost didn't realise it, but they had already been on the road for four days when the disturbance occured. The long journey had been a monotonous one, and his mind had turned to dark and brooding thoughts to keep him occupied. He hadn't even been able to stop elsewhere in the City before leaving, but their thoughtful new employer had rations a plenty on the wagons it seemed. Day turned to night, and then night to day again, while Korvus kept up his vigilance from the front of the wagon. Here and there he slept, for a few hours at a time at most, his fingers always gripped tightly around the hilt of his new dagger. By the fourth day, he had grown somewhat bored and was annoyed at the lack of conversation with his cartmates.

That made the prospect of a fight all the more dangerous for the cloaked figures that now stood on the road before them. Karinthia called them forth from the cart, and he hopped down onto the ground clenching his glaive in both hands. The female captain was forming up her own guards in front of the lead wagon as the dozen cloaked raiders, or what Korvus assumed to be raiders of some sort, paced slowly towards them. The warrior moved up next to the guards, and looked at the hooded adversaries. None of them showed any obvious mark of being in charge, so Korvus decided to simply assume that the one nearest to them was leading the pack.

Tightening his grip on the glaive, Korvus stepped out of the line and walked purposefully down the road to confront the cloaked gang.

"Make a move against me and this guy gets a glaive through his face." he snarled, before demanding "Reveal yourselves, and take not a single step further."

Glaring from beneath his spiked helmet, Korvus clenched his glaive ready to strike down the nearest opponent at the first sign of hostile intent.

If the cloaked mob don't do as he says, or if he sees any sign of a weapon being drawn amongst their ranks, he will make a powerful horizontal slash at the chest of the nearest of them before ramming the spike at the base of his weapon forwards into his gut. Korvus will then quickly take his glaive in a one handed grip and grab the dying elf to use as a meat shield against any crossbow fire that may come as a result of such an action. If they play the sensible game and don't attack, he will await instruction from Karinthia.

For four long days, the carriages trundled along the roads of Naggaroth, passing through mountain ranges and snow-crested hills. Sirenis was quiet on the trip, conserving her energy and becoming accustomed to the Vanity armour which she now wore. Long days under the glaring sun blended into one another, the cold, moonless nights their only respite from the brightness of the daytime. Although her gaze would seem to be focused on the desolate landscape around them, Sirenis made sure to keep a watchful eye on Senluthan, glancing at him every so often so as to ensure that the Khainite knew he was being watched. Occasionally, she spoke to the Khainite, attempting to learn a little more about him: his name, his city, his interests.

Sometime on the fourth day of the journey, during a rather dull conversation with the Khainite, the carriages came to a stop and the captain of the guard called for the mercenaries to disembark. Sirenis quietly obeyed, stepping out into the wintry air, her right hand lightly grasping the hilt of her draich. A little way down the road Sirenis could see a gang of cloaked creatures strolling purposefully towards the caravan. As the caravan's guards assembled in front of the carriages, Korvus began to march towards the strangers, glaive held at the ready.

"Make a move against me and this guy gets a glaive through his face," he snarled, brandishing his weapon.

Either this Elf has a deathwish, thought Sirenis, Or he is simply a fool.

Sirenis began to march ahead with Korvus, unsheathing her draich slowly and menacingly.

Friends, reveal yourselves, or my companion may lose his temper, spoke Sirenis. This does not have to end in bloodshed - halt, and show your faces.

Sirenis moves forward to stand next to Korvus, her draich gripped firmly in both hands. She holds the blade low in a defensive position, the pommel of the blade near her right hip and the tip somewhere near her left shoulder. If she is attacked, she will twist the blade to the right, parrying as she does, and then bring it down in a sweeping arc, aiming to instantly kill her opponent, preferably in a bloody, frightening way so as to scare off any would-be attackers. She will remain almost silent throughout the proceedings. If she is not attacked, but the cloaked strangers continue moving, she will block their path and happily strike down any of them foolish enough to come within reach of her blade. If they attack anyone other than her, she will chop them up good and proper.

As kailleth sat in the carriages setting the clasps on his new van brasses the gladiator jumped in and took a seat beside kailleth and nodded which kailleth returned, the gladiator then said to kailleth, "Looks like I ride with you. Let's not make this journey a silent one, what's your story?".

Kailleth smirked and continued adjusting his armour as he replied. “Well not much to tell I’m a soldier of fortune, I was once a guard in a noble house hold like these fine fellows” kailleth looked up and swept his eyes over the 5 guards in the carriage. “and my name is kailleth blackthorn of hag geaf… but we can talk more about the past over drinks in Hag greaf.”

After the brief conversation kailleth spent the next 4 days in silent thought studying the guards patterns and which ones where truly loyal and who could be bout. Kailleth was soon revolted as he saw the guards slacking in their duties and judged that their quality was severely lacking. But then the caravan came to a unexpected haut and every one was called to arms. After the guards and the gladiator exited the carriage kailleth fallowed behind them and studied the scene as it unfolded. 12 of them and 20 of us hmmmm no druchii would take this risk… theirs something were not seeing here, kailleth closed the door of his carriage and slung his shield on to his arm as he pulled out and loaded his hand bow.

Kailleth walked slowly to the front of his carriages scanning the land scape surrounding the road. But then his eyes were dragged to the commotion at the front of the caravan as the gladiator and Sirenis marched forward shouting commands at the strangers with weapons drawn, “well that’s one way to find out if there friendly” he said scanning the road side once more.

kailleth is standing by the front of the captives carriage scanning the road side, if he hears the door open to the carriage he will turn with hand bow ready to fire, if he sees any sing of a ambush from the road sides he will shout a warning and defend himself, and if blood shed erupts from the front he will loses 3 bolts in to the thickest grouping of enemies.
