Fallout: New Vegas

Is installing right now. I got it for PC, shame there's no collector's edition for my chosen games platform though. Anyone else picked it up? It was one of games which I anticipated hugely, I just hope I won't be let down by it. I know what to expect of the graphics and such, but I hope the music is good.

There isn't? In germany there definitely is a PC CE.

I have it requested on Goozex so I won't be getting it for a while...which is ok since I got NHL11 a few weeks ago and I have Heavy Rain in the mail.....and the fact that I have yet to finish Fallout 3... I love exploring sandbox games so it could be a while before I finish it...just got my power armour...Then I have to get to painting my DE army... ect ect...never seems to be enough time for everything.

I'll be curious to see if it actually works. I usually give games this complex 6 months for all of the initial patching to be out of the way before I buy it.

I'm interested in it but after being muchly disappointed by Fallout 3 I'm not holding my breath... I saw Bethesda's logo on Fallout: New Vegas.

It is cool. I mean, really cool. Graphics are actually a bit less refined than Fallout 3, but with a game of this nature that's not much of an issue I guess. I just went around the small township you start off at, and have had a lot of fun there. Already had a good few hoots at the way you distribute your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points and how it's circumscribed.

I chose a sneaky character as usual, specialising in Guns (non-energy stuff). What first charmed me is how much better some of the guns handle outside of VATS. You've got iron sights now, which seems like a minor addition but means quite a lot. You'll be putting FPS skills to use much more now than in FO3.

The main quest is, as in most games in this tradition, waiting for you. But I did one or two quests in that little town, and felt I could wander as much as I want. I'll report more, but this weekend is busy so I won't have much time.

Well, if you didn't like Fallout 3, chances are probably very slim, that you will like this one.

Well, about ten hours into my first character playthrough, I have to say it can be bloody hard in some places. I've come up to the point that I need to get something in a Vault, but the Vault is 1) totally irradiated from top to bottom, no clean spots whatsoever and 2) brimming with Feral Ghoul Roamers and Glowing Ones. I'm currently around 800rads trying to conserve my RadAway and popping Rad-X constantly. Problem is you seem to only be able to find 10mm ammo in that Vault, and 10mm pistols and smg's, which do pitiful damage...

Well no, Dalamar, I didn't. And I got back from the Vault with a unique assault rifle called the All-American and a sniper rifle. Oh yeah, and without RadAway and at 900rads.

Nice reward for beating the hardest area I've encountered in these games.

I liked Fallout 1 and 2. Found the waterchip finally, I did. Later on, I got suddenly disappointed when I realized the totally unrealistic effect of firearms. I mean, how many times do you have to shot somebody in head with the dessert eagle to finally kill him? I understand its for the game play, characters should not die too easily but come on. Kids will lose all respect before the firearms and continue to believe that shooting someone is just an innocent game. This should have been ballanced otherwise in the game, really.

On the other hand, when I made the home made RPG version of Rackhams AT-43, I made some in-game cards based on the Fallout items, like RadX, Buffout, Lockpick, Geckon on a stick and so on. Journal of internal medicine. Caseless ammo. Yeah.

I multiply damage by 7 in the GECK for all guns/melee/HtH weapons which makes it far more realistic for me at least. 2 or 3 hits will kill anything, but the reverse is that human opponents and turrets/robots become deadly and you die far more often.

At any rate I have been playing the game for a bit and am up to my second serious playthough with a full roleplay charater.

There is something weird with the graphics and its not as pretty as FO 3, but the difference is very slight. There is already a large range of mods, and some FO 3 mods are usable without change. The story is much more complex and less focused than FO 3, and while you do have a MQ, its easy to ignore it for a while and just go exploring.

With my own increased damage mod its possible to wander about with just a pistol and manage most non human enemies with ease. Numbers and surprise is still an issue though, as well as things like deathclaws that do hugh amounts of damage.

So far its a great game which is better than FO 3 in most ways.
