Druchii Names

Post by Herkles »

Hello, I am new to the Druchii lore and fluff, But I am wondering what would be the typical names for the Dark elves? Are there any links or informtion that can help give some more information on DE names than what the DE book provides?

Hello and welcome to D.net.

Since most of the names have a "speaking" family name, I suggest to have a look at the webzine. In the archive find the quarterly from january 2004 (the one which is divided in three parts). There is a section on druchii language containing some words and an example for a house name.
If I remember right, a lot of GW characters have english (or local language of armybook) house names (Darkblade, Fellheart).

The first name is something I usually get by mixing the letters of known names from real life or books.
If they were not sitting on our land, I would not spend a single bolt on the Asur.
How to tell apart the elves:
Men run naked - Asrai
Women run naked - Druchii
Don't know whether man or woman - Asur

I also use the 'descriptive' second name method. For first names I usually look through other elven names, from GW stuff, LOTR, D&D etc, and change some of the letters to harsher ones.

High Elf Root Words

Post by Lukaroast »

What i usually do is take high elf names and extract the root word. add in some harsh letters, and a few druchii sounding pre-fixes and voila! a druchii first name. for last names, i go on a Dark Angel (Warhammer 40k) name generator and get some of those names and distort them a bit to get a good surname.

I find that Latin is a good starting point if you are stuck, because the root words have a resonance if you speak English, or another language based partly on it. Malus, for example, simply means 'bad'. Many such classical references have been taken up by GW, in 40K especially. Obviously it is best to alter them slightly, Caledor (as in the princedom of Ulthuan) is probably (I claim no certain knowledge but only surmise) based on the word calidus (meaning hot or hasty), though they also use this word for one of the kinds of assassin available to the Imperium.
Moding a group of Druchii.net players is much like directing the musical 'Cats' using actual cats. Frustrating, difficult, chaotic but ultimatley satisfying and a great deal of fun.

Dark elves have very Babylonian names. I use a Babylonian Name Generator for mine. Examples:

Mardual

Nergik

Rumesh

Anshur.

for second names druchii normally have a notable trait, a house name or where they are from, for instance, Menghil Manhide and Dolthaic the ruthless, Fellheart and Hellbane are both notable family names, and Tullaris of Har Ganeth or Fuerlan, scion of Naggor.

house names (Darkblade, Fellheart).

fellheart is a house name but darkblade is not, darkblade is the personal name carried by Malus and means 'a flawed thing', he absolutely hates being called it and I doubt a family would be very happy to have itself known as 'flawed'.

I actually did some research on this for my background fluff for Animosity5.

http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums ... hp?t=14590

had some inspiration in it. Not a lot, but you can mix and warp as you see fit.

well last names are usually titles, which i assume a family can but is not in any way forced to carry. take for instance lurhan, malekiths father, his last name is fell heart or something similar, yet usualy its lurhan the vaulkar. then his firstborn and favorit son brugil is always adressed as brugil the reaver, uriel is usually called uriel the forsaken. Yet then again the hellebrons and such appear ti have long family trees so it seems inconsistant.

No malus is Latin for bad or evil, both malevolent and malicious stem from it.

Malus is also the latin name for a holly bush (or something similar) IIRC

It's the Latin name for the apple tree genus. This can make Google searches a little unexpected :p

BTW how do you pronounce Malekith? I always thought the "Male" would be pronounced like "malevolent" but I recently played Mark of Chaos again and there it is prononounced like "male" (as in opposite of female).

Does anybody know if any one of those is the canon pronounciation?

we had a discussion on this in the thread 'Draich-how do you pronounce it?'. There is no canon pronunciation so pronounce it how you like, I personally model my pronunciation on mark of chaos, it being the only GW-created spoken reference, however I pronounce Malekith with male as in 'malevolent' rather than 'male' as in opposite of female.
