The old Citadel "Foundation" paints

Post by Brad »

As my pots reach their inevitable emptying, it's time to start looking for alternatives. Has anyone tried their new citadel replacements? (I believe they're called "base" colours now). Or do any other manufacturers make a similar go-straight-on-over-black-primer product?

The base are pretty much the same. I currently use both, and I actual think the Base are a little better. :)

I also agree new citadel bases are better than previous foundation. This is because they cover just as well but have more vibrant color.

I don't know if it's been a bad batch, but I found that the new base layer paints seemed a bit too thick. They didn't leave a smooth surface, which became more noticeable once the finer detail and drybrushing was done. It may be though that they just don't suit my painting style. I'm experimenting at the moment to find something I like. Just bought some Vallejo, and will try it out soon.
