- Mechanicus Standard Grey (Base) - Highlight Raised Areas with a 50/50 mix of the above and Celestra Grey (Base) - Wash whole area with Drakenhof Nightshade (Shade)
I have touched up a few small spots with the dark base again to finish.
@Dalamar
They don't look like they'd be able to hold on. Keep in mind that drow strap themselves down to their mounts. Mainly because all of their mounts are fully capable of going upside down.
Yep know what you mean, but did not afford the time to sculpt rigging to them - these are ninja drow, they have trained with their mounts for 100 years and can leap buildings in a single bound...
Dalamar wrote:I think the highlights are too strong... They're more everquest dark elves than drow... I figured out a simple technique that I think works great... But am currently lacking minis with large areas of skin to show off that are fully painted <.< not for long though! I will soon be the owner of over 50 witch elves
The spider riders look great, much better than I would have imagined. I don't even feel the need for any strapping, they look good as they are. And great job ranking them up, I can imagine how difficult it must have been.
I have started my core ground troops, the Militant Myrlochar - Order of Soul Spiders (Dark Elf Corsairs) here is the first unit of three I plan to do.
Still finding it a challenge to be working with such a dark palette, but think I have now settled on the colour scheme to carry through the rest of the army. I am also finding the new basing method a challenge - I'm use to just dropping static grass on the model at the end, getting the GW technical paint to work how I want is proving difficult.
Lovely! I really like how the various details stand out on the dark colours, like the moons (such a great use of the HE torsos!) and the masks on their faces. I think this is the first time I actually like them, but they fit your models and the paint makes them look like spider silk.
It's been vastly upgraded since that picture but I think I will hold off posting it until it's painted (next thing after I'm done with my driders which I hope to have finished todayl
7th edition army book: Games Played: 213 Games Won: 114 (54%) Games Drawn: 33 (15%) Games Lost: 66 (31%)
Looking good Dalamar! You must be telepathic, I am working on a unit just like these at the moment
I like the green stuff on the bodies, looks like fur. I was thinking about doing this as well but in the end went for a more bulbus look. I also like the shading/colour transition on the legs of the spiders.
I have a bit more work to do on mine yet - just about to start painting them.
